One of the most interesting tales of Plante's Ferry is that of the stolen gold that was buried somewhere near the ferry in the 1860s. $80,000 worth of gold back then would be worth millions nowadays. Although many have tried to locate the stash over the last 150 or so years, it still remains hidden in an unknown location. Or was it already discovered? We may never know.
